Justin Bieber gets totally legit contract offer from ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors

Back in December of 2011, international pop superstar (and NBA celebrity all-star game MVP) Justin Bieber skated with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He even scored "a few goals" on Jonas Gustavsson.

Granted, that doesn't mean much, both because Gustavsson was likely being generous and because, you know, Jonas Gustavsson... but it was impressive enough for the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors.

The AA Hockey League franchise has offered the "Baby" singer an amateur tryout contract.

Now, this seems totally legit, you guys. I mean, check out Condors' coach and director of hockey operations Matt O'Dette (@BigOdie2 on Twitter, according to the release) as he discusses Bieber's legendary skillset:


"Very rarely do you see this combination of skill and toughness," said O'Dette. "We share a common Canadian heritage since we both hail from Ontario. I've scouted some video of him online skating with my hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and I think he could provide some elusive speed up front for us. Plus, he's a right-handed shot which we've been looking to add. I think if we paired him on a line with (Robby) Dee and (Peter) Boyd we'd be tough to beat."

The 5'7″, slender built superstar should provide a rookie presence for the second-year laden Condors squad. Plus, his sick flow will fit right in with a Condors team known for their style. The Condors have reserved his much publicized favorite number 6 to be worn in Condorstown.

That Bakersfield is holding a number for him is my favorite part. I imagine other Condors rookies asking if they can have six, only to be told, "Sorry, six is reserved for Justin Bieber."

The press release continues on past the Bieber section. There's an info section introducing people to the Condors, followed by the promotion of a few other events. It's almost as though, the Bieber topper was just a ploy to get your attention. Are they just wasting our time, time, time, time, time?

I wouldn't put it past them. After all, this is the same organization that gave us Charlie Sheen night, where admission was free with a clean drug test, "Tiger Blood" slushees were two for one, and if anybody had Sheen's "Two and a Half Men" episode salary of $2 million lying around, the Condors were even for sale.

But you know what would make this not a publicity stunt? If Bieber showed up. After all, according to the lyrics of "Baby," he's willing to give a girl "any ring." What if she wants a Kelly Cup ring? Better go get one, just to be safe.
