Hailey Roser got the surprise of her life when pop star Justin Bieber flew to Milwaukee, Wis., to visit the cancer-stricken superfan.
Bieber's road to Hailey began when the young fan's parents started a social media campaign in hopes of getting the singer to visit their 4-year-old daughter, who was diagnosed with a rare, cancerous brain tumor in August, the Journal Sentinel reports. Hailey's mother had bought two tickets to the Justin Bieber concert for the girl's fifth birthday, but she said knew that the odds of her daughter making the show were slim.
A "Healing Hailey" campaign was launched online, with Indiegogo collecting almost $15,000 in donations for the family. One of the campaign's followers called TMZ to spread the word about Hailey and her love for Bieber. TMZ then contacted Bieber's manager Scooter Braun about the little girl.
Students at Holmen High School even made a video for Hailey in hopes that Bieber would see it before his big show in Milwaukee on Sunday, WXOW reports. Supporters also took to Twitter using the hashtag #JustinVisitHailey.
The social media push worked, and the 18-year-old pop star met with Hailey at Milwaukee’s BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Bieber's manager also took to Twitter to mention little Hailey and offer his support.
Later on Sunday, a tweet sent from the Hailey Roser handle said that the young girl had more than just her dreams realized: "Sad today is over but happy best day I've had in a long time thanks to all of you love you all especially @justinbieber for giving me #hope."
Bieber's Sunday visit to Hailey almost didn't happen, according to GossipCop. After a shooting at the nearby Brookfield Square Mall, there was a lockdown in the area. Hailey's hospital was also on lockdown.
"It was just great to see her smile," Hailey's father, Eric, told the Journal Sentinel. "To give her something good to do finally after being [sick] for two months, it felt so good."
